| If we believe in the prophecies Web 2.0 is the hype and will change our view and life in a dramatic way. As I've gone through the development of the internet from its commercial origins I have a certain opinion on this topic. But I don't want to prejudice anything - so tell me, what you think about it! _________________ Raveblue

| My belief is that the term was meant to mean the change over from old web advertising to new web applications where the web actually had more user interfaces that actually did things as opposed to showing people things. Just what I've picked up loosly along the way. (Don't mention the shadows) |

| I voted can't stand. Yes, although there are some great ideas coming out of it, it is WAY overused. Technologies are still somewhat the same. Plus with the term becoming like spam or "If I say Web 2.0, I'll be cool" is getting tiresome. As well, it's become a curse if you say Web 2.0 about a new company startup. If you do, give them 3-6 months before they fall. |

| Having read your replies so far, I can tell you that I fully agree with it. Web 2.0 seems to be the buzzword for everything that's new whether it's true or not. To me it is the attempt to explain something they haven no answer for so far. I've seen a lot of orphaned Blogs and the larger the choice (e.g. video) the lower is the quality - this referrs es well to the web as to the reality. Honestly: Who is able to tell the crap from the good? It will take some time for it to consolidate and then we will see, what's left over. _________________ Raveblue

| I'd just like to say the one positive to take is that if the web is now going 2.0 it does mean it's moved on in a new direction. |

| <technical jargon>The concept of "Web 2.0" began with a conference brainstorming session between O'Reilly and MediaLive International. Dale Dougherty, web pioneer and O'Reilly VP, noted that far from having "crashed", the web was more important than ever, with exciting new applications and sites popping up with surprising regularity. What's more, the companies that had survived the collapse seemed to have some things in common. Could it be that the dot-com collapse marked some kind of turning point for the web, such that a call to action such as "Web 2.0" might make sense? We agreed that it did, and so the Web 2.0 Conference was born.<technical jargon/> It's basically the new style of website that has come about recently some of which are mainly web applications, a site you can actually use rather than just view. There's alot of hype about the phrase, if you Google web 2.0 you will get a thousand different peoples opinions and it doesn't always make for pleasant reading. Some members might leave you a list of web 2.0 sites so you can view the kind of sites that are considered web 2.0. |

| "Many people believe the over all simplicity of the web 2.0 style is based on the programmers and web developers having to concentrate so much on the functionabilty and the coding of a site that they needed a style that was nice to look at but simple to create". http://www.taylorsprint.com/web-design-2.0.html |

| More than some good ideas. After all not every feature of web '2.0' fit for every project, and - as many know - it is not an invention but a regrouping of different useful techniques; my opinion is that the main thing about web 2.0 - or whatever we should call this thing - is that it binds the whole project to start with Information Architecture and Users first, and then to build organically around and upon these basis... but as said not every project need to be so user-centric and information-centric. E.g. Ajax and 'Folksonomy' in a simple showcase website are overkills. Two good links: a brief and exhaustive explanationof web 2.0: http://www.masternewmedia.org/web_2/web_2_examples/web2_examples_of_services_and_applications_20051006.htmA good scheme of an organic web project by Jesse James Garrett (.pdf): http://www.jjg.net/elements/pdf/elements.pdf |
